NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When should i book my newborn photography session:

The best time to photograph a newborn baby is up to 2 weeks of age. This is because they tend to be very sleepy and curly at this age and usually a bit easier to settle.

You can contact me at any time during your pregnancy to book a tentative time for your session, although it is advisable to secure your session in the second trimester. Closer to the delivery we can firm up the session date. If you are a last minute person I do take a limited number of last minute bookings so you can always ask :)

Where are newborn photography sessions held?

For newborn sessions, I have a cosy, warm studio in Hampton East, bayside Melbourne.  It is packed full of props and drops (that I have enjoyed sourcing from around the world) and beautiful light perfect for capturing photos of your baby and family.  Because I am so perfectly set up in my studio, I am unable to travel to private homes for newborn photography

Do you provide props, outfits, or wraps, or should I bring my own?

My studio is filled with gorgeous backdrops, cosy wraps, and beautiful natural light—so you don’t need to bring a thing! However, if you have a special blanket or heirloom item that holds sentimental value, I’d love to incorporate it into your session.

may i include family or siblings in the session?

Yes! In fact I encourage it. We can chat about this upon booking.

What’s the typical duration of a newborn session?

My sessions are relaxed and calm, and baby-lead, so please allow around 2-3 hours. I don’t shoot to time, but I follow your baby’s cues so if they need feeding or settling we have plenty of time for this.

Are you experienced with newborn babies?

I have been photographing infants for over nine years. Newborn photography is a specialised area of photography and I take your baby’s safety very seriously. I am a former physiotherapist, and I have spent many hours of professional photography development to ensure the safe handling and posing of your precious baby.  My vaccinations are up to date, I have infant first aid training, I am fully insured, and I have a current Working with Children check.

What is your pricing?

Upon booking you will be required to pay a non-refundable retainer of $150 (for a single session). For a combined maternity and newborn session, the session fee is $300.  Digital and printed products are in addition to this.  Packages start at $525 for six digital images.  For a more detailed pricing information, please contact me directly.

How do I choose my images?

After the session, I take a lot of care and time and edit your images.  I shoot for quality not quantity.  Around 2 to 3 weeks later, I invite you back to the studio, and I will show you a select number of photos from the session.  You choose your package on this day. Packages start at $525 for six finely crafted and edited digital images and their complimentary prints. I then take your chosen images and polish them up and then share the final images with you via Dropbox.

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR PRINTED PRODUCTS:

I am very happy to work with you on your wall art and printed products. I take printing very seriously, so I print with a professional printer who uses fine art, archival quality paper, canvases and inks. This means there will be no over-saturation or colour changes in your prints, and no colour fading with time so your prints will literally last for your grandchildren to see and touch.  Please read here for MORE INFORMATION
