Portrait Masters Accreditation
I recently was very excited to receive the Associate Level of Portrait Masters. Most people probably don’t know what this means, so I would like to elaborate.
Portrait Masters was set up for portrait photographers of all genres with two purposes:
1. to recognise photographers who work to a high professional standard which in turn gives reassurance to clients
2. as an award competition’ for photographers
To obtain accreditation, a photographer is required to submit a portfolio. Each photo is judged and scored separately by five top photographers and educators from around the world– the likes of Susan Stripling, Richard Wood, Sue Bryce, Ray Schembri and Michele Celentano to name a few. As an entrant, this is a very intimidating – that these amazing photographers are sighting and judging your work.
Each image is scored on expression and connection, styling, composition, posing, lighting, overall technique and presentation, post-production, focus and storytelling. A point system determines the score, and a score over 70 deems a photo has reached a ‘professional’ standard. So why do this? For me, it is the personal achievement of reaching this level. It feels good to have reassurance from fellow photographers from around the world that my work is of a professional standard and I do feel proud to be able to show clients that I have accomplished this accreditation.
