Why Having A Maternity Photo Session is Definitely Worth it!
Let’s be honest. Pregnancy isn’t always the glowing, glamorous experience it’s made out to be. There’s the exhaustion, weird side effects, the stress on your body, and sometimes… moments where you just don’t feel like yourself.
And yet, there’s something truly extraordinary about this time in your life.
For many mothers, pregnancy is something we only experience once or twice. It’s fleeting, beautiful, and life-changing, and I truly believe it deserves to be documented with care, authenticity, and heart.
That’s why maternity photography means so much to me. It’s not about “looking perfect”; it’s about celebrating where you are during this time and preserving the anticipation, strength, and love that come with it.
Why It’s Worth Having a Maternity Photoshoot
If you're feeling unsure about booking a maternity session, you're not alone. Many women feel apprehensive at first, especially if they’re not feeling their most glamorous. But here’s the truth: it absolutely is worth it.
A pregnancy photoshoot isn’t just about creating pretty photos. It’s about pressing pause in a season of life that moves fast, giving yourself permission to feel proud of what your body is doing, and celebrating the journey that has brought you here.
These images aren’t just for you. One day, your child will look at them and see the love, the excitement, and the strength you carried them with. They’ll see how deeply wanted they were, even before they arrived.
And for you? You’ll have timeless, beautiful memories of this chapter – both the good days and the bad.
This is your story, and it deserves to be remembered.
When’s the Best Time to Book?
I recommend booking your session between 30 and 36 weeks, when your bump is round, and you’re still feeling mobile and comfortable. It’s different for everyone, but this is when most clients feel their best in front of the camera.
Before anything else, we’ll schedule a call so I can get to know you a little better, including what you’re hoping for, how you envision the images, and what kind of session experience you’ll enjoy most. That connection is everything. It helps me shape a session that’s relaxed, easy, and uniquely you.
Your Session, Your Choice
I offer both studio and outdoor maternity sessions, and while they’re completely different in look and feel, both are designed to be calm, fun, and low-stress.
My studio sessions in Brighton offer a clean, timeless aesthetic with lighting and beautiful simplicity.
Outdoor sessions bring in golden sunlight, wind-blown gowns, and a touch of the wild, making them perfect for those seeking something more natural and spontaneous.
Most clients naturally feel drawn to one or the other, but I’m always happy to help you choose if you’re unsure.
What to Wear and How to Feel Your Best
Feeling good in your skin makes a huge difference in photography shoots, which is why I can suggest a professional hair and makeup artist during your session. With maternity shoots, showcasing your natural beauty can help you feel confident, relaxed, and radiant on the day.
I also offer access to a curated wardrobe of elegant, timeless maternity gowns and fabrics that photograph effortlessly. I suggest clients wear nude-coloured underwear for easy outfit changes.
And yes, we’ll have fun with it!
A Safe, Supportive Space
With my background as a physiotherapist, I bring a deep awareness of your comfort and safety during our shoot. Every pose, every moment is guided with care. I aim to make my sessions fun, relaxed, and filled with laughs for everyone – including your partner, who is always invited!
If you're also planning ahead, you might want to consider newborn photography after your maternity session. It’s a beautiful way to continue documenting your journey of motherhood, capturing those first days with your baby when everything is fresh, new, and full of emotion.
Let’s Create Something You’ll Treasure Forever
Pregnancy can be an incredible experience, and at the heart of every session, I want you to enjoy yourself and feel amazing. That’s why I strive to showcase your strength, vulnerability, and, above all, your beauty.
Let’s capture your journey together.
